Put Together a "First Six-Weeks" Survival Kit for New Parents
The first six weeks after the baby comes home from the hospital are the most difficult to adjust to. Even seasoned parents will admit no matter how many children they have - it's always a jolt for the sleepless nights and frequent feedings. First time parents can feel bewildered, confused and nervous during that time and you can give the ultimate baby gift by putting together a survival kit with the basics they'll need to get through those first six weeks.
Getting some rest is going to be biggest hurdle, so making both the new parents and the baby as comfortable as possible will help everyone get some much needed rest.
A personalized layette set will cover many of the items you need at once such as a 100% soft cotton blanket, onesie, hat to keep baby's head warm and help hold in his body heat, soft hooded towel, bib, burp pad and washcloth, all personalized with the new arrival's initials.
The swaddling blanket will compete with the burp pad for which item gets the most use during the first six weeks. Swaddling means to wrap the baby snugly in a blanket. Many babies feel exposed and vulnerable when they aren't held tightly and a blanket that swaddles them will make them more comfortable. After all, babies are used to being wrapped tightly in the womb and when new parents recreate that feeling for the baby through swaddling, everyone sleeps a little better.
A nursing pillow is another item that many new breast feeding mothers find helpful. It can be exhausting to feed a baby that wakes up every three hours or less. A nursing pillow tucks in behind baby to keep her properly aligned while nursing in bed and allowing the new mother to get some rest during feeding time. Some nursing pillows have glow lights that give off a soft glow and allow the mother to watch her baby without using bright lights. Standard baby items such as plenty of baby wipes and diapers should be kept in bulk supply for all of baby's little accidents.
Use these tips to put together a baby gift that any new parents can appreciate and these items will help make the adjustment to the littlest member of the household even easier.
