 Special Gifts for Mother's Day

Start thinking ahead for your Mother's Day gift this year, especially if your gift is for a mother-to-be or new mother that is officially to celebrate her first Mother's Day.

A mother-to-be will be thrilled with a special gift such as a belly casting kit. She can capture her belly in plaster and have a lasting memento of when her baby was growing and not here yet. Many women have their belly castings brushed with bronzing or other metallic glaze and then mounted. Most children find belly castings intriguing to look at when they are older.

Something just for the new mother when she's still expecting on Mother's Day is always welcome. A basket filled to the brim with things to make her feel gorgeous and feminine will be appreciated. Hot soaking baths are a no-no for pregnant women but they can still enjoy slathering on yummy lotions and relieving her aches and pains. Belly skin especially can benefit from frequent moisturizing as many women report fewer stretch marks when they keep their skin on their growing tummies liberally moisturized.

Another great gift you can give is yourself. No, it doesn't involve wrapping yourself up in a big bow, it simply means getting a little creative and on your computer or by hand, make a series of "coupons" for the new mother to use. They can range from baby sitting when she and her partner want to go have a worry free dinner out together or maybe a little house cleaning service as a clean house often goes by the wayside when there's a newborn in the house and sleep becomes a prime commodity.

There are so many ways you can show your affection and good wishes for a new mother or mother-to-be this coming Mother's Day,use these tips and design a Mother's Day gift she'll use and appreciate.

 Having an Easy Delivery

Nothing causes more stress even among mommies of two or more children than the actual delivery of the baby. It's a stressful and trying experience and when a woman is anxious, it can make the labor pains even worse.

If someone near and dear is going to be going in soon to have their baby, you can give them a gift that will help your mother-to-be have the calmest and easiest delivery possible. The Labor Day Pack is a wonderful collection of items that will help mom even through the hardest stages of her delivery.

There is an herbal eye pillow made of flax seeds, lavender and mint to relieve strained eyes. Some women close their eyes so tightly during the pushing phase of giving birth they can actually give themselves black eyes. This eye pillow will help her keep her eyes from swelling and relax from the aromatherapy from the herbs.

During contractions, many woman feel them from their lower back clear down their legs. There is a warming massage oil that her partner can use to rub down her back, legs and feet. The oil is all natural and includes cocoa butter, sweet almond oil and grape seed oil. There is also relaxation body lotion and since lips can get so dry during labor, lip balm is included too.

A lighthearted inclusion in the Labor Pack is the Smiley Face Contraction Ball. This little stress reliever will give mom something to squeeze with all her might during the hardest contractions. Additionally, the ball can be rubbed in the small of her back to relieve tension during labor. One of the most wonderful parts of this gift are the Preggie Pops. Since food and drinks are not allowed to women in labor, Mom can suck on a lollipop to help with dry mouth and these only contain all natural ingredients to help alleviate nausea and give a burst of energy. There are seven different delicious flavors.

Last but not least, there are two buttons for after the baby arrives. They say "I'm a (tired) New Dad!" and "I'm a (tired) New Mom!". Wear them with pride - you earned them!

Basics for a Successful Baby Shower

Throwing a baby shower for an expectant friend or family member doesn't have to be a pain; with a little planning and organization it can be easy!

First of all, choose your theme if you're going to have one. If you know the sex of the baby, choose a Pink Princess theme or a Little Boy Blue theme. If you don't know, pastel colors and a generic item like rubber duckies will make a fun theme to build a party around and you can even get little rubber duckies to give away to your guests as shower favors.

Traditionally, showers are held four to eight weeks before the due date of the baby so start planning your shower about a month before it will be held so you'll have time to make any changes to your guest list or other adjustments. Which brings us to the guest list. You will need to create a list of people to invite and from that list determining roughly what your budget will be for snacks and favors.

The guest list should include family and close friends of the mother and father-to-be. Sometimes, co-workers are invited as well. The future parents should always be consulted on the guest list to avoid inviting people they really wouldn't want at the shower.

As far as foods, go light with small sandwiches, fruits, veggies with dip, chips, sweet treats such as cookies and brownies and other light party fare is most often served at showers. Many people get the mother-to-be a cake to celebrate the occasion as well.

A traditional baby shower will focus on building the baby's layette, which is the newborn's collection of clothing. A nursery shower will help to build the baby's nursery with all the essentials, such as cribs, swings, and bathtubs. If you want to keep the shower general, create a list of items the mother-to-be could use to give your attendees ideas. Another option is to create a registry at a local store so certain gifts such as infant bathtubs aren't doubled up on.

If the mother-to-be already has a children or children, she can still have a shower. Years ago, showers were reserved for only the first babies - however all births are celebrated and many women have a shower for each of their children. These types of showers are often referred to as "sprinkles".

Whether it's a shower or a sprinkle, throw a great get together and celebrate the impending arrival of the mother-to-be's that little prince or princess that is soon to be here.

A Baby Shower for Mom and Dad?

With fathers taking a stronger role than ever in the nurturing of their children, a couple's shower is fast becoming a commonplace occurrence. Another reason is more and more women are returned to the workforce and more men are choosing to stay at home and be the primary care giver, with both parents sharing the burden of housework and other daily chores as equally as possible. Therefore, the traditional baby shower that was traditionally a "female only" event has been expanded to include both parents.

The gifts for a couple's shower are still roughly the same. The shower is still thrown in the same spirit since you're welcoming a new baby into the world; however when the man of the house is included in the shower, you can have a little fun with his role as a new daddy and get him a gift such as a new daddy tool belt that is an actual tool belt fitted with items needed in everyday baby care such as pacifiers, rattles and other fun items.

The same games are still played at the baby showers, however in a couple's shower you can up the ante and pit the men against the women or have parents versus non-parents. Your guest list can include all your male and female friends. A fun mix of people will make the couple's shower even more fun - the more the merrier! Shower favors are also given out at a couple's shower, just like a traditional shower.

If you have a baby shower to throw for an expectant couple, make it a couple's shower for a little something different - you may start a whole new tradition among your family and friends!

 Creating Heirlooms

When you're choosing a baby gift, you can go with two main routes; you can either choose a baby gift that will be useful now such as a set of receiving blankets or bibs or you can give a gift that won't be useful at the moment, but will be cherished for generations to come as an heirloom piece.

A handmade quilt is one way to give an heirloom gift. Make your quilt out of tightly woven cottons and they will cost a little more but you'll want this to last. You cam make a special design and embroider the baby's name on the quilt. Many parents hang these in the baby's room to use as a decoration.

Another great heirloom gift is a Blessed Baby Christening Bracelet. This is a gorgeous keepsake bracelet that will commemorate baby's special christening or baptism. This is a beautiful heirloom piece that will be passed down for generations to come. The bracelet is made with cream colored pearls that are spaced with shimmering mirror-cut crystal beads. A lightly hammered charm is attached that reads, "Blessed". There is also a tiny silver cross that dangles from the extension chain and it has a well-made lobster clasp closure. This bracelet comes in two sizes; infant 3.75-4.5 inches and baby/toddler 4.75 -5 inches.

If you're looking for a gift that is sure to please and be regarded for years to come, consider the thoughtful gift of an heirloom for the new baby. You have just started a family tradition!

 Celebrate Baby's First Easter

Easter will soon be here and making your baby's first Easter special is easy and fun!
No matter if your baby is a boy or girl, a new outfit is in order. A new suit for baby boys and a pretty Easter dress complete with bonnet for little girls. Complete baby's look with a new pair of shoes for the occasion.

Baby probably won't be participating in the Easter egg hunt, however you can still give your baby a plastic egg with beans or other small hard object inside to shake and rattle. Most babies will squeal with delight when the egg starts making noise with their every movement. As whatever you put inside the plastic eggs can be a choking hazard, do not let your baby play unattended with a plastic egg. Most babies will enjoy watching the activity and running around of the other children as they hunt Easter eggs, run and play.

It's never too late to start celebrating all of baby's first holidays. There is a fun way to do it with the Baby's First Year Teddy Bear Gift Set. This fun set includes a plush and cuddly bear, booties, a rattle that attaches to baby's wrist so even very young babies can enjoy playing with it.

There are also a selection of bibs embroidered with "Baby's First" and the following holidays : Christmas or Chanukah, Easter or Passover, Valentines Day, Halloween and First Birthday. If you prefer, the Christmas & Easter bibs can be switched to Passover & Chanukah. All the items are packed in a container and arrive looking like a celebration cake!

Enjoy your baby's first Easter, he or she will be too little to engage in all the activities; but you can still make it fun.

Sure, You Can Throw Your Own Shower!

Although it has been viewed as a major faux pas during the past couple of decades to throw your own baby shower, the times have definitely been changing. When you are pregnant, whether you are financially set or not, it is always nice to have a shower to both welcome your baby into the world with friends and family, but to also receive gifts that you are going to need after the baby arrives. If you feel as though throwing your own shower for the baby is something that you would like to do, you can always express your wishes to friends and family so they do not try to take on the task themselves. However, because you may get tired or overwhelmed it is always a good idea to take them up on any offers that they give you to help out!

Start a gift registry like you normally would want to during your pregnancy. This is a marvelous way to let all of your guests know what kinds of items that you still need to get before the baby arrives. If you are having some sort of a theme for the nursery, the shower is also a nice time to introduce it to everyone. Letting guests know of the theme in the shower invitation is always a nice idea to help them shop as well.

Make sure that when you plan your shower that you get everything together that you will need including interesting party games, cute favors and maybe even something personal that you can look back on such as a guest book that your friends and family can use to write down blessings and good wishes. Throwing your own shower can be fun and very memorable for your family!
